Research

The research behind every raise, deal and diligence call.

Every program we run starts here: our own data from years of raises and deals, checked against the filings and registers governments keep, and tested before you act.

How a finding earns its place in our research

How one finding is checked before it reaches youA page with one finding marked. The finding passes a ledger of five checks, each ending in a ticked box: the regulator's own copy, the investor read two ways, the source tied to its page, rival review systems that try to break it, and a test of the method itself, whose lessons loop back to the first check. What passes leaves on one oxblood line, ready to use.

One finding

  1. Read the source

    The Record Mirror

We read each filing from the regulator, not a stale resold copy.

  2. Read the person

    The Allocator Model

We read what the firm may invest in, and whether this person can say yes.

  3. Pin it down

    The Evidence Spine

Sources are saved and dated; numbers stay tied to their pages.

  4. Try to break it

    Cross-Examination

Rival review systems, blind to each other, try to break it. A named partner signs off.

  5. Test the method

    The Proving Ground

We keep a new method only if it does better on cases it has never seen.

Each lesson goes back in

Ready to use

What passes becomes a short list, a report or a first letter to an investor or owner.

Where our research comes from

It starts with our own record of raises and deals. Then we check it against what governments publish: registers, courts, filings and permits, at home and abroad. Here is the map of the sources we draw on.

Starts from our own record

What the market has said

What investors asked and why they passed in our raises. Used only in aggregate.

Shared history

Boards, employers, schools and co-investments, joined up by our relationship graph.

Where our sources are, by kind and by placeFifteen kinds of source in four groups, one dot per source, set in columns for US national, US state and local, other countries, and global sources. Solid dots were used on client work, ringed dots we can reach today, faint dots are mapped. A final row of empty dashed squares stands for the next source we add.
